I was going to work on my blog post for Kanmuriyama Park this evening, but I really needed to write about this place pronto! Why the rush, you ask? This beautiful little park is full of Kawazu Sakura, and they are pretty much at their peak right now. Kawazu Sakura are the early blooming cherry blossoms that, as far as I can tell, are named after the town they originated in called Kawazu.

A friend of mine went yesterday with a group of friends and when I saw their pictures, all I could think about was when I could get to this park full of beautiful cherry blossom trees. As luck would have it, I found myself with some free time this afternoon. I knew exactly where I was going to spend my free afternoon. After a quick little stop to grab my camera and change my clothes, I was on my way!

After driving for almost an hour, I was enjoying the beautiful ocean view when I saw the park! Well, I saw pink. I could see the pink trees from across the way and now I really couldn’t wait to get there!

It wasn’t very crowded so I had absolutely no problem finding a parking space. I could see the trees as I walked up and they were so pretty!

The park itself is not very large, but there is plenty of room for picnics and for children to run around. The views are also pretty nice.

It’s also stroller friendly for the most part. The upper level has two ways to get up to it. One side has stairs, and one side has a paved path that leads up to it.

I couldn’t get enough of this place, and I couldn’t stop taking pictures. I took my macro with me and I felt like I needed to make myself stop. So, I stopped and I walked around for a little bit without taking any pictures. I just enjoyed the perfect little cherry blossoms. On my way to the park I stopped and grabbed some food so I sat on a bench right next to a cherry blossom tree and enjoyed my very late lunch/very early dinner. Then, I put the macro lens back on and spent the next twenty minutes taking lots and lots of close ups of the flowers!

I switched my lens one more time and did one more walk around the entire park. It was really hard to leave!

I highly recommend going to this park this week if you can. The cherry blossoms are on their way out and the green leaves are starting to take over. I’m pretty sure this park is pretty nice even when the cherry blossoms are not in bloom, but it is absolutely gorgeous when they are!

It takes a little over an hour to get here from Iwakuni, and I should note that the official name of the park is Kaminosekijoyama Historical Park.
