When a friend of mine posted something about a Cajun place opening up, I quickly grabbed my calendar to see how soon I would be able to go check this place out. Since I already had plans to go to Miyajima on New Year’s Eve, I decided to wait until then.

I called and made reservations since I didn’t know how big the place was or how busy they would be on the 31st. I’m so glad I did because it’s not a huge place and it filled up while we were there.

I had been debating on whether I wanted the fried catfish or the jambalaya, but they were sold out of the jambalaya so fried catfish won. There may have been a big part of me that was doing a happy dance inside when I was told they were sold out of the jambalaya. I knew I would have been happy with either one, but I LOVE fried catfish and it had been a while (years…like 5 or more) since I had fried catfish.

So, I ordered my fried catfish and my friend, Tani, ordered the blackened catfish. We also decided to order the spicy shrimp salad.

The spicy shrimp salad came out first and it looked fantastic. It was a pretty big salad too. We starting eating and it was delicious. I confess that I have a hard time with spicy food. I can’t eat super spicy food so it can be a little bit of a challenge sometimes. This definitely had a little bit of spiciness, but I was able to eat it so I was really happy because I didn’t want to stop!

The blackened catfish came out next. Tani said the flavor was mild, but it was good. It was also a good amount of food too, as it comes with a salad.

The picture of my catfish is the main photo so I’m not going to post another one. Doesn’t it look delicious? It was. It was also a lot. We probably could have shared the shrimp salad and the fried catfish. The fries that came with my fish were really good too. Even though I was full before I could finish everything, I couldn’t stop eating the fries!

Gator’s Cajun Kitchen is super easy to find. They are located near Miyajimaguchi train station. It only took us a couple of minutes to walk there once we exited the train station. Just walk out, pass the 7-Eleven on your right and round the corner where Bluebird Cafe (great place to grab a hot drink afterwards!) is located and you will see this sign on the ground.

Go up these stairs and you’re there!
