The first time I found myself strolling around Yamaguchi Flower Land was for a photography adventure, years ago. I fell in love with all of the beautiful flowers and I remember spending hours taking pictures.

There’s so much to love about Yamaguchi Flower Land! The variety of flowers and the walking paths have always been pretty high up on my list. Yamaguchi Flower Land

There’s quite a bit of open space and little play areas for children to run around and enjoy themselves.

I also love that they have benches placed throughout the park, some that are shaded and some that are not.  What a wonderful thing for people who have a hard time walking a lot or being on their feet for extended periods of time.

Spotting beautiful butterflies and dragonflies throughout the park. I saw the most beautiful red dragonfly on my last visit, but I wasn’t quick enough to get a good shot. This little beauty sat still for me though.

Putting together and taking home a cute little potted plant. I had no idea they offered this wonderful service until I saw it on TV a couple of months ago. I was so excited to try this out for myself.

First, you pick out your container and then you select the plants you want to place in the pot. I had a hard time figuring out how many I could fit in the container I selected, but the lady who helped me with the whole process was fantastic and she advised me on how many would fit comfortably. She was also very helpful when I was trying to choose my plants. They were all so cute! I could have chosen a larger container, but I really liked the one I had picked out. After choosing everything, I went to the register and paid for it all. There is a small fee for using their dirt, but it was from ¥100 – ¥400, depending on the size of the container. Mine was ¥100. Now the fun begins!

After putting on the gloves they provided, I was led through the whole process step by step. From tips on how to remove the plants from their temporary pots, to how and where to place the plants in the new container.

All done! What do you think? This cost me less than ¥2,000. Yamaguchi Flower Land

I love that they offer this service! I love plants and flowers, but I do not have a green thumb so something like this is perfect for me. Small and cute, but doesn’t need a whole lot of attention. Maybe I could do this myself at home (highly doubtful), but what would I do with all of the leftover soil and rocks? I was also super happy about not making a mess at my place.

If you want to just purchase plants and flowers to take home and plant yourself, you can do that too.  They have a pretty good variety of flowers and herbs.

There is a restaurant on site if you find yourself getting hungry or you just want a little snack (soft cream anyone?).

Yamaguchi Flower Land is less than an hour away from Iwakuni by car, and they do have a good amount of parking (free). The entrance fee is ¥500 per adult and ¥250 per child (elementary through junior high school student). They also offer an annual passport that costs ¥2,000 per adult and ¥1,000 per child.

At the entrance they gave me a ¥50 coupon that I was able to use towards my potted plant project.

When you visit Yanai, be sure to check out the Shirakabe no Machi (white walled town) area too. It’s a really neat area to walk around and there is a great soy sauce factory that is worth visiting.
