When I heard that Cafe Gram opened up a place in Hiroshima, I couldn’t wait to go! Cafe Gram is home to the really thick and fluffy pancakes that actually jiggle and I have been wanting to try them. They have quite a few locations throughout Japan.

My friend and I made plans to go yesterday since it was a holiday. The trains were running behind schedule because of the snow, but we still managed to get there before they opened.Cafe Gram

Actually, we were the first ones there! Right after we walked up though, we heard voices behind us and a line started forming.

We sat down in front of the door (there are some chairs) and a little bit before 1100, one of the employees came out and asked us if we were ordering the Premium Pancakes. Once we said we were, she asked how many we wanted. They only have 60 orders of Premium Pancakes available per day and they spread it out. From 1100 they have 20 available, at 1500 they have 20 available, and then at 1800 they have 20 available. She handed us a plastic ticket and asked us to hand it over to our server when we place our order.

At 1100 they opened the doors and we were shown to our table. The inside was actually bigger than we thought. This photo below is of one side of the cafe.

Unfortunately, they do not have an English menu. The menu selections are in English, but the descriptions are in Japanese. I don’t think it’s a huge issue since most of the items are pretty self explanatory based on the name.

The moment we had been waiting for! Our fluffy pancakes!

They were everything we thought they would be. Light and so fluffy, and they were jiggling when our server set the pancakes down! They were delicious. They came with some butter on top, whipped cream on the side, and a very small amount of maple syrup on the side. I think I saw on the menu that you can order extra maple syrup for a fee.

I can’t go to a restaurant without ordering a couple of different things off of the menu. While I know that Cafe Gram is most famous for their Premium Pancakes, I was really curious to try their regular pancakes and their French toast. So, we ordered one of each and shared.

We got the plain pancakes and the plain French toast –

The regular pancakes and the French toast were also pretty delicious. Next time I want to try the caramelized banana pancakes! Or maybe the strawberry pancakes!

Cafe GramWe did not order these, but the people behind us did and when we saw that they were the ones who ordered this delicious concoction, we asked if I could take a picture. That’s right. I have no shame. In my defense, we did chat with them a little while we were waiting for Cafe Gram to open up so it’s not like I didn’t know them at all. They were kind enough to pause and let me take a photo before digging in.

They offer a special lunch set if you go between the hours of 1100-1400. You can add a drink for an extra 150yen, or soup for an extra 150yen, or a salad for an extra 150yen to your pancake order. Cafe GramI highly recommend going early. We got there at around 1040. They are quite popular on the weekends so going on a weekday might give you a better chance of getting the fluffy pancakes (I know they are called “Premium Pancakes”, but I prefer “fluffy pancakes”). If you have to go on a weekend, be prepared to stand in line for a while and the possibility that the fluffy pancakes might be sold out before you get in.

Cafe Gram is located in the Hondori (covered shopping) area of Hiroshima. They are open from 1100-2100. I believe last order for food is at 2000 and for drinks is 2030. If you know where the Adidas shop is, Cafe Gram is located right across from it. Cafe Gram
